Nicole Van Buren
Third Grade Teacher
years at cwc:
2016-Present; 5th Year
In May of 2016, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater where I majored in Elementary Education and minored in Spanish. Recently, there have been some changes in licensing in our state, but I am happy to say I officially have my lifetime licensure for the state of Wisconsin!
Upon graduating from UW-Whitewater, I started my teaching career right here at Central Wisconsin Christian School. I have been blessed through my many different classroom experiences here. I started out teaching first grade for half days and was then given the opportunity to teach full days with that same class, following them to second grade. We had so much fun that I was even able to follow that same class to third grade, where I was able to gain experience in co-teaching in the classroom. After that I taught another year of second grade and I am happy to say this year I am back to teaching third grade! I am beyond thankful for the relationships I am able to build with different students and their families each year.
why i love working at cwc:
I have found that my favorite part of working at CWC is that I can openly pray both for and with my students every day. It is so comforting to me to know that we can look to the Lord for every little thing we face throughout the day. We can pray for our classmates who are home sick, we can pray to take the nerves away before a big test, we can pray to thank the Lord for everything he blesses us with each day in the classroom and outside of the classroom. I truly feel blessed knowing I can just pause the day with my students and turn right to Him.
favorite bible verse:
Philippians 4:13 has always been the verse to get me through any of the tough times that I encountered over the years. As of recently I have found a new verse to favor; Psalm 46:5 reads 'God is within her, she will not fail.' I find comfort in knowing that no matter what I face in life, God is always with me and I can get through anything because His gives me what I stand in need of.
After the many different classroom themes over the past few years, I am happy to say that I have found a theme that I am sticking with – coffee! While I was hesitant on how students would reciprocate the love for this theme, I can confidently say it is a hit!! The most enjoyable part of our theme this year is getting to create our very own ‘coffee shop’ throughout the year to impact those around us and show others the ways we are “grounded in God.” Our class verse for the coffee theme is Psalm 34:8 – “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”
