HS English Teacher
My Deep hope:
My Deep Hope is that my students will know God as the Author of their story and honor Him as they celebrate His gift of language.
years at cwc:
1999-present (23rd year)
Bachelor's Degree--English/Language Arts from Dordt College (1999)
I have spent my entire teaching career at CWC. While I have always taught the English classes in the high school, I have also spent time in other areas. I coached the dance team from 1999-2006, and I have done a lot of work in the area of planning and leading our chapels and WOW times. I am also the main adviser for the yearbook, which has been both a class and an extra-curricular activity during my time at CWC.
I have been married to my husband Scott since 2000. He is the Ministry Director for Badgerland Youth for Christ, and we both enjoy dedicating our time to the youth in our community and surrounding areas. We have three daughters, all of whom are students at CWC. Their gifts and interests are in a variety of areas, so we find ourselves attending events and supporting many different areas of CWC: athletics, music, and the performing arts. Our family is blessed by all of the activities that CWC offers, and we are thankful for the many opportunities to glorify God with our gifts!
why i love working at cwc:
I love working at CWC because I am able to share my two passions with my students every day: my love of language and my love for the Giver of our language, the WORD himself (John 1:14). I believe that our words are a reflection of what is in our heart (Luke 6:45), and how we choose to use our words is one way we can bring praise and glory to our Lord. My goal for my students is to help them develop skills that allow them to use words in the most correct and beautiful ways possible. I also love helping them become discerning readers through individual responses to literature and class discussions. Since I teach most of the high school English classes, I am able to observe students as they enter as freshmen and watch them develop and learn skills throughout their high school career. I feel honored to be a part of that aspect of their high school years, and I desire to prepare them for whatever work God has planned for them so that they may impact the world for Christ.
favorite bible verses:
When it comes to my teaching, my two favorite verses are Deuteronomy 32:47, "They are not just idle words for you—they are your life," and Psalm 19:14, "May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Personally, my current favorite verse is Zephaniah 3:17, "The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
