…My deep hope as we study the Bible is that we will grow in our faith, our understanding of God and his word, and see our story in God’s story.
YEARS AT CWC:
2 1/2 years. I began in January of 2019.
I grew up in Holland, MI, where I attended K - 12 at Holland Christian Schools. After graduating High School in 1992 I attended Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL for 4 years where I earned Bachelor of Arts majors in vocal music and instrumental music and a minor in education. I graduated there in 1996.
PREVIOUS TO CWC:
Upon graduating from Trinity I was blessed to work for a church in the southeast Chicagoland area for 19 years. There I served as worship leader & technical director. My role included developing vocals and working with the bands/instrumentalists. I then spent 2 years working as a salesman for a ready mix company in Illinois and continued to work as a worship leader but for a different church located in Crown Point, Indiana. I also provided private vocal, piano & guitar lessons to students.
My wife, Sharla, and I met at Trinity Christian college and married after college on June 13, 1998, in the church where I was working. We lived in South Holland, IL, for about 5 years until the church relocated to Dyer, IN as it was expanding. We moved to Saint John, IN, where we lived until we moved here. We are very blessed with the 4 children we have. Emma, who is a student at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI, Caleb, Avery, and Carter who are students here at CWC. We enjoy being a part of the school and serving where we can.
Things I enjoy doing:
When I'm not at school I enjoy many outdoor activities - biking, gardening, yard work, fishing. I do enjoy reading a book but don't do that nearly enough. I also enjoy spending time with my family whether it's watching a movie, playing games or experiencing different things in the area together. Sleep is good too.
Why I enjoy teaching:
The part that I look forward to each school year is being in the classroom again with the students. The personal relationship that I develop with each class and individual student is what I enjoy the most. Helping them see their story in God's story along with the understanding that they each have a purpose from God. I also enjoy seeing them step out and try new things. For example, when students step forward and willingly volunteer to be a part of our praise team is a blessing to me. I enjoy seeing them all grow under the healing and transforming power of worshiping God.
A FAVORITE BIBLE VERSE:
I find that I jump around to different verses in the Bible. But one that continues to connect with me is a blessing from Romans 15:13. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
